If you are not careful in the summertime, the hot summer sun, improper watering, incorrect mowing and other things can quickly ruin your beautiful green lawn. If you have a lawn, there are a few tips that you should keep in mind when caring for your lawn during the summer.
When the sun is shining bright and it's excessively hot outside, you might think that your grass wants the same thing you do when you get overheated, lots of water. This, however, isn't the case. Watering your lawn too much, even in extreme heat, can do more damage than good. When the soil underneath your lawn is constantly wet, it causes problems. This will lead to the roots of your grass becoming oxygen starved, which in turn can lead to disease. The best way to water your lawn is to wait in between waterings until the grass is completely dry, and then water it again.
Remove Dead Patches
You've done your best to keep your grass healthy, but there are some spots in your lawn that have dried up, turned brown and died anyway. That's okay; your grass can still be saved. You will need to identify dead and dying spots as quickly as possible, and then start to remove any and all dead grass. Removing the dead grass will then allow air, water and sunlight to reach the healthy grass, and it will start to regrow as green as ever.
Mow Your Lawn Properly
Instead of just firing up your old, tired mower and haphazardly mowing your lawn, make sure that you are mowing your lawn in the correct manner. First of all, you need to ensure that the blades on your lawn mower are sharp. When you mow your lawn with a sharp blade, the grass that is cut will heal more quickly than if it is cut with a dull blade. Dull blades can end up damaging your grass's plant tissue, which will then turn brown and spotty. Resist the urge to cut your grass too short. Cutting your grass too short can weaken roots, but when your grass is cut at the right length, the roots will remain strong and your grass healthy.
If you don't feel like you are adequately prepared enough to care for your lawn this summer, try contacting a local landscaping company to care for your lawn for you. They will have the adequate knowledge, training and experiencing to ensure that your lawn thrives instead of dies this summer.

Hello, my name is Willy Wilson. When I was in college, I rented a small home with my friends and coworkers. The home was in bad shape and needed a lot of help across the entire property. My friends and I decided to build up the home from the inside out with a unique landscaping layout. The landscaping process ignited a passion for creating gardens out of tired, patchy lawn space. I want to use this site to explore all of the different ways you can create a beautiful landscape around your home. Come by anytime to learn about this fascinating subject.
